BROKER'S COMMENTS

VALE OF YORK is a beamy centreboarder. With her long overhangs – totalling 50% of the waterline length, pretty sheerline and deckhouse in the Giles manner she is a very elegant boat. The long ends and the large deckhouse allow for adequate headroom with some grace and without spoiling the profile. A special little boat; quite unspoilt and still much loved by her current owner.

History

VALE OF YORK was built in 1959 at Itchenor Shipyard for Colonel Norman Birch then commodore of the Humber Yacht Club. In his lifetime Birch had commissioned a series of yachts from Jack Laurent Giles; MAID, ROSE, ROSETTE; all OF YORK - and this was to be the last. The \'Vale\' refers both to the landscape around York, and \'vale\', Latin for farewell. David, Laurent Giles’s son recently recalled his father considering this VALE the prettiest little boat he ever designed. The current owner\'s late father bought the yacht in 1990 and sailed her to Holland, northern France, along the south coast and, all over the east coast, especially in the estuary waters of Essex and Suffolk.
