It is always an inspiration when we come across a classic yacht that appears to have enjoyed an easier life. ILLIRIA has been with the Carlini yard from birth throughout all her ownerships so of course having built her, the yard where she winters every year, knows and treats her well.
She was one of 3 very beautiful boats designed to race under RORC rules and either her designer or first owner perhaps had the good sense to stay with the counter stern; a far more beautiful configuration we consider than the retroussé sterns then coming into vogue. Below the waterline with split keel and rudder she still looks slippery today and is a very interesting option.

ILLIRIA was built by Cantieri Carlini, one of the principal builders in Italy of S&S designs around that time. The boat is a RORC class sloop with separate rudder and keel with trim tab.
She is one of 3 sisters; the first ASSEGAI II was built by Berthon in Lymington. Design #1777-C1 named AJA was built by Bröderna Martinsson Varvs AB of Sweden. These boats were reconfigured with a different interior layout, separated rudder and retroussé transom. ILLIRIA retained the traditional counter and transom.
Every year since her launch ILLIRIA has been hauled out in November and re- launched in April. During the winter she is recovered for annual maintenance to the same yard in Rimini where she was built.
